The National Guard adheres to the same standards as the US Army and other branches of the United States military. Guard recruits must meet certain physical fitness standards and a few other requirements as explained below.
Age: 17 – 42 years old (If 17, you must obtain permission to join from a parent/guardian)
Education: You must have a high school diploma or GED. If not, you may be eligible to obtain a diploma through the National Guard’s delayed entry program (DEP)
Citizenship: must be a citizen, or in some cases a permanent resident, of the United States
Physical Fitness: depending on your weight/height, must meet Army Physical Fitness Test standards
